Unfortunately, the flooring in the finished area was a hardwood laminate. Laminates and water seldom mix well and the water quickly damaged the flooring beyond repair. The cushion beneath the floor was totally saturated, there was no way to extract the water from the cushion without removing the entire floor.
Sump pumps weaken as they age. They become incapable of pumping water at their "when-new" gallons per minute rating. A weaker pump and sustained heavy rain is a recipe for disaster. This problem becomes even more magnified when the homeowner does not have the right coverage or the proper dollar amount of coverage.
