How To Dry It Out
Second, dry the crawl space out by removing any standing puddles of water. Check the grading to ensure that water flows away from the crawl space and make sure gutter downspouts are directed away from the building.
Third, clean out the space, removing any debris. Don’t leave old bottles, cans, or buckets under your home. Get rid of any insulation that may have fallen and securely reinstall any that needs replacing.
Fourth, it may be necessary to install a sump pump. A pit will have to be dug to allow a place for water to collect so that the pump can remove it.
Lastly, install a vapor barrier of at least 6 mil plastic to cover the crawl space floor. This vapor barrier should be the top layer, with no dirt or gravel covering it. Depending on your particular situation, the installation of a crawl space dehumidifier may be required to control humidity buildup.
