Cupped, water damaged wood flooring is one of the most difficult and complicated materials to dry. It requires experience, finesse and good judgment to reverse the damage. Wood flooring responds slowly to moisture so it’s important to act immediately if you find, warped, cupped or discolored water damaged wood floors in your home.
When wood flooring is damaged by water there are two primary concerns: permanent damage to the floor itself and mold growth. The normal moisture content of hardwood floors is between 6% and 12%. Hardwood can appear to be dry and have moisture content above 20%, which will enable further damage and support mold growth. It can take weeks and even months if left to naturally dry on its own.
