It never takes longer than a day to clutter up your desk. Take a few minutes at the end of every day to straighten up your desk. File away or organize any work documents. Dispose of unwanted notes and any candy, gum, or food wrappers.
Do Lunch Away From Your Desk:
Sometimes you think if I eat right here I can get more done. It maybe true, but it is hard to keep crumbs and drips from building up on your desk, computer keyboard and screen, and desk drawers. Crumbs and drips can lead to bacteria and germs, then to colds and missed work. Eat somewhere. Keep your workspace a workspace and not a cafeteria.
Kill and Eliminate Germs:
Dust, dirt, and other "things" accumulate over time. At least once a week, wipe down all surfaces with a multi-purpose cleaner.
An Antibacterial Is Your Friend:
Germs spread rapidly in any environment. You may be diligent with keeping your workspace clean, but what about everyone else. Using a hand sanitizer is inexpensive and it can be easily be kept on your desk or in a convenient drawer.
Empty Your Trashcan Daily:
If your office doesn't have a daily cleaning service that does this for you, take out the trash every evening. This way germs won't be waiting around for you first thing tomorrow morning.
Common Areas/Break Rooms:
Don' be afraid to take the lead and straighten up common areas and break rooms. If you set the example, others will follow your lead and appreciate your efforts.
