Are These Statements True?
For example, is a bottled water distributor going to tell you that the quality of your water is fabulous? Will an air quality company tell you that your home's indoor air is as pure.
The Five Mold Myths
2. Mold is toxic. Toxic means poisonous. We all know that blue cheese is poisonous, don't we? Water can be "toxic" if our head is held under water for 4 or 5 minutes. There have been no documented cases specifically linking mold to human death.
3. Mildew is not mold. Yes, they are both fungi, but although both are cars, a Toyota is not a Cadillac. Mildew primarily grows on plants, not shower walls. Therefore, mildew is generally not a problem in most homes.
4. The acceptable way to remove mold is to wipe it or spray it with bleach. Dead mold spores can still adversely affect your health. I like to say if you have a skunk in your basement, you have a problem. Killing the skunk will solve the first problem but create a new one. Mold, like the skunk, needs to be removed to solve the problem.
5. All visible mold causes adverse health affects. Mold affects individuals differently and a mold that harms you may not harm any other member of your family. Don't rub up against it on purpose. Don't lick it off the back side of a piece of drywall in the back of the shoe closet.
