Yes and No...
According to cleaning experts, you should vacuum your carpets at least once a week for each member of your family. If there is just the two of you, twice a week is recommended. If you are married and have two children, four times a week is recommended.
Oh, but let's not forget about your dog or cat. If you own a pet, it is considered a member of the family and another trip through the house with a vacuum is required.
Now for the no. Many carpet manufactures say that vacuuming does not count as cleaning carpet. They recommend that you have your carpets professionally steam cleaned every 12 to 18 months. And by professionally, they don't mean that it's okay to run down to the corner and rent one of those do-it-yourself rug cleaners or use your store-bought steamer machine. In fact, many carpet warranties may be voided if you don't use a cleaning professional.
There is another benefit to having your carpets professionally cleaned. And it is a health benefit. Your carpet is the single biggest air filter in your home. It filters pollen, dirt, dust and other contaminates out of the air. When millions of Americans suffer from allergies, indoor air quality is a huge issue.
